Advanced Pipeline Program Curriculum: 


Course Description: Advanced Pipeline is segments of pipe that are welded together using the SMAW process, running an electrode in downhill and uphill progression. Students will learn to weld on an 8, 10, and 12 inch pipe. In addition, both an Arkansas Bell Hole test (6G) and an In-Service test in both downhill and uphill progression will be completed during class.


Subject Hours: 120 Clock Hour's (20 hours lec, 100 hours lab, 00 ext)


Performance Objectives:

  1. SMAW process works
  2. Proper fitting of pipe
  3. Running weld beads using downhill and uphill progression
  4. Welding Arkansas Bell Hole test (6G)
  5. In-Service test


Prerequisites: Admission to the program

Weekly Content Outline:

  • Week 1 - Safety procedures, lab guidelines, tool usage, setting up and prepping the work area. 
  • Week 2 - Cutting using oxyacetylene and running beads. 
  • Week 3 - Running beads on 8, 10, & 12 inch pipe.
  • Week 4 - Running beads on 8, 10, & 12 inch pipe. 
  • Week 5 - Arkansas Bell Hole Test 
  • Week 6 - In-Service Test 


Basis of Grades: Tests / Quizzes:  10%, Lab Assignments: 65%, Final Exam: 25%
